DIY Halloween costumes RULE!

For me, 90% of the fun of Halloween comes from the process of creating your getup. I delight in every step—from the conceptualization to the visualization to the planning to the execution. I find no joy in picking up a ‘sexy nurse’ costume from one of those random Halloween stores that pop up out of nowhere (can we discuss how bizarre this is?). I say it’s all about repurposing items you already have, borrowing a piece from a friend, creating something all your own: crafting, cutting, gluing, painting, sewing, whatever it takes to make your costume completely satisfying and totally unique. And best of all—made by YOU! “But we are adults now”, you say. “I have other more important things to do with my time”, you say. I say don’t knock it until you try it, until you experience that amazing moment when you look at yourself in the mirror and see that all of your insane ideas and crazy creations have materialized and are working together to disguise your entire being. That is the power of creativity. I challenge you to go out on a creative limb—if not this year, then next year. You have about 365 days to think about it :)

Enjoy your Halloween, my pretties!

What Halloween look that you’ve created are you most proud of?

Also, which one of these looks would you be interested in seeing a tutorial on:

Cruella, The Corpse Bride, Maleficent, or Barbie?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Para mi, el 90% de la diversión en Halloween viene del proceso de crear tu traje. Me fascina cada paso—desde la conceptualización (tremenda palabra!) hasta la visualización, la planeación y la ejecución. No me emociona en lo absoluto recoger un disfraz de ‘enfermera sexy’ de una de esas tiendas que aparecen de la nada cada Octubre (podemos hablar de lo bizarro que es esto?). Yo digo que la onda de Halloween es encontrarles un nuevo uso a prendas y objetos que ya tienes, pedir una pieza prestada de un amigo, crear algo enteramente tuyo. La alegría esta en elaborar, cortar, pegar, pintar, coser, hacer todo lo que sea necesario para que tu traje sea algo completamente satisfactorio y totalmente único. Y lo mejor de todo—hecho por TI! “Pero ya somos adultos”, dices. “Tengo cosas mas importantes que hacer con mi tiempo”, dices. Yo digo, no rechaces la idea sin intentar primero. Cuando te mires al espejo y veas que todas tus ideas extrañas y creaciones locas han materializado y están trabajando juntas para camuflagiar tu ser entero, te das cuenta que usar tu creatividad no tiene precio! Si no es para este año, para el que sigue te reto a que tomes el camino creativo. Tienes unos 365 dias para pensarlo :)
Disfruten su Halloween, amores!
De todos tus disfraces de Halloween, ¿cual ha sido el que te ha gustado mas?
Otra pregunta, ¿te gustaría ver un tutorial de como puedes recrear a Cruella, The Corpse Bride, Maléfica, o Barbie?
